Macsteel Special Steels & Bright Bar

Bright Bar – Round Drawn

Bright Bar Round Drawn SAE 12L14

Bright Bar Round Drawn SAE 12L14 is used for high speed production and/or repetition work where the main requirements are rapid machining and maximum tool life. Cutting speeds on this grade are considerably higher than those of mild steels as well as the Sulphur free cutting steel grades, together with a far more superior surface finish. The lead addition however further impairs the mechanical properties and fabrication characteristics compared to the re-sulphurised free cutting steel grades such as forge-ability, formability and weldability. Bright Bar Round Drawn SAE 12L14 is not suitable for hot dip galvanising.

Bright Bar Round Drawn SAE 1018 (080A15)

Bright Bar Round Drawn SAE 1018 (080A15) has a good balance of ductility, strength, toughness and excellent welding capabilities. It has a hard surface and soft core which improves drilling, machining, threading and punching processes. This also makes Bright Bar Round Drawn SAE 1018 (080A15) useful in preventing cracking in severe bends. It is, however, not suitable for through, flame and induction hardening because of its low carbon content.

Bright Bar Round Drawn 230M07 (EN 1A)

Bright Bar Round Drawn 230M07 (EN 1A) is popular because of its low carbon-manganese grade. This free cutting steel is typically used for the manufacturing of components that require a superior surface finish with high production rates. Cutting speeds on this grade are considerably higher than those of mild steels. The potential for welding and forming is however limited because of the high sulphur content. Bright Bar Round Drawn 230M07 (EN 1A)is not suitable for hot dipped galvanising. The material can be carburized to produce components with enhanced wear resistance.

Bright Bar Round Drawn 080A42 (EN 8D)

Bright Bar Round Drawn 080A42 (EN 8D) is a medium carbon and medium tensile steel used mainly in applications requiring a higher strength than Mild Steel for manufacturing automotive and general engineering components. It has reasonable machining and welding capabilities. Suitable for heat treatment where extra strength is required.
