The business unit has also recently added the country’s largest fibre laser to their operation, explains Loubser: “Until now, the largest laser bed in the country was around 2m x 8 – 13m. This new laser of ours, has a 24m x 3m sized bed. And it is a 12kW fibre laser for fast cutting, the only one in the country. This will enable us to laser cut much larger projects and do so at a much faster rate.”

TOSAWRAP® is Macsteel’s patented external shrink wrap product. It’s uniquely self-healing to prevent corrosion and deterioration of a steel pipeline. TOSAWRAP® is a wrapped galvanised pipe, fitted with your connection of choice. It’s painted with bitumen, and then wrapped with a low-density polyethylene sleeve which gets heat-shrunk onto the pipe.

To better meet the needs of our customers, we invested in a fully functional, non-destructive magnetic particle inspection and ultrasonic testing line. Except for the demagnetizing and ultrasonic testing units, the project was entirely designed and manufactured by Macsteel. Proudly South African and proudly Macsteel! This means that our pipes complies with international product and systems quality requirements, which Macsteel has had accreditation with the body since March 2017.

Macsteel did the nation proud when they broke a world record to become the new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS ™ title holder for the longest roof span covered by a single metal corrugated sheet. The sheet spans 280 metres, across the widest part of the roof.
