ECOStudy fosters a love for nature in future generations through free, hands-on excursions to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park. During term time, Grade 6 learners from non-fee-paying schools see their Natural Sciences textbook come alive. Game drives become immersive lessons, transforming complex concepts into tangible, thrilling discoveries.

Holidays are reserved for community round-tables on poaching, climate change, invasive plants, and human-wildlife conflict. By engaging with youth leaders, traditional healers, and people with disabilities, ECOStudy gives residents a voice in protecting South Africa's natural treasures.

Their programmes also create jobs, support small businesses, and channel millions of rands into local economies. Proof that conservation and growth can thrive together!

Replacing Classroom Walls with Natural Beauty

Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park in KZN is Africa’s oldest game reserve and globally recognised as a biodiversity hotspot. It is also home to the Sontuli Environmental Education Centre. Despite its idyllic setting, the facility had deteriorated over the years, and its capacity no longer matched growing demand.

As ECOStudy uses the venue to inspire ± 20,000 learners and community members annually, they took on the task of bringing it up to standard.

Strong, Smart Steel Solutions

A key feature of the renovation was a new open-air amphitheatre. The curved roof required long-span structural elements that would not obstruct sightlines. As the licensed supplier of Cellular Beams for the sub-Saharan region and the Indian Ocean islands, Macsteel donated the innovative steel product that made this architectural centrepiece possible. We also provided design assistance and delivered the manufactured Cellular Beams to the steelwork fabricator of choice for further fabrication.

The lightweight yet incredibly strong beams were the perfect solution for the curved roof design and extend the lifespan of a key community asset, enabling decades of impact:
