TOSAWRAP^® is Macsteel’s unique patented self-healing wrap for galvanised steel pipes, which ultimately offers three layers of protection against the corrosion and deterioration of steel pipelines. The first level of protection is the galvanising of the pipe, which is then coated in bitumen before being covered by a low-density polyethylene (LDP) sleeve. Should the sleeve become damaged, the bitumen, which is under constant pressure, will be squeezed through the hole, effectively sealing the puncture. This means that nothing will come in contact with the steel, dramatically extending the life of the pipe.

These pipes can be fitted with any connection of the user’s choice, and even this connection can be protected with the simple addition of the Tosa Blanket^™. The Tosa Blanket^™ is a reusable protective cover designed to encapsulate a wide range of flanges, Victaulic^®, and any other couplings. Made from a mechanically strong outer casing around a visco-elastic or petrolatum mouldable inner mastic, the blanket can be installed in minutes, sealing to steel, polyethylene, epoxy coatings, and polyurethane pipe protection systems.

The outer casing is flame retardant, and its mechanical resistance and compressive strength are ideal for maintaining the integrity of the inner mastic and preventing it from leeching into the immediate environment. Following installation, the whole blanket is wrapped in stretch wrap and PVC tape, giving it an extra layer of protection. Water hammer resistant, the Tosa Blanket^™ is manufactured according to SANS 1123 / ANSI B16.5 standards and is so easy to install that training only takes a few minutes.

This ability to completely seal entire steel pipe systems and protect against oxidation and the corrosive elements found in a variety of regional, metropolitan, and rural soils makes the TOSAWRAP® and Tosa Blanket™ ideal for use beyond water systems. As well as water infrastructure, the system has also proven itself in sanitation, petrochemicals, mining, gas, and agricultural solutions since 1999.
